While the season-opener may still be a few months away, the interest and excitement for the newly created Formula Enterprises Pro Series continues to grow.
Since first being formed under the Formula SCCA banner, the Formula Enterprises class has steadily grown into one of the more popular and successful junior formula car classes in SCCA Club Racing competition. Building on that growth, Erik Skirmants, President & CEO of SCCA Enterprises, recently joined forces with SCCA Pro Racing to create the Formula Enterprises Pro Series.
Racing in conjunction with the revitalized Pro Spec Racer Ford Series and Trans-Am Series, as well as the renowned World Challenge Series, the new pro series will feature many of the top FE drivers from across the nation going to head-to-head for not only the bragging rights of the series title and trophy, but prize money in each race.
Among those already confirmed for the 10-race championship are Scott Rettich, Brian Novak, Matt Schneider, Jonathan Bennett, Paul Schneider and Matt Mair. Driving for Hippi Racing, Rettich enters the series having finished second in last year’s SCCA National Championship Runoffs after starting from the pole position, and as the reigning June Sprints winner. Novak, who drives for Jay Motorsports, is a former Formula 500 National Champion and multiple race-winner since making the switch to the FE class. Fellow Jay Motorsport’s pilot Matt Schneider started on the front-row in the 2009 National Championship race and has several FE race wins on his resume. Both Bennett and Paul Schneider are multiple Formula Enterprises race winners and perennial contenders for divisional titles in SCCA Club Racing competition. Driving for former National Champions and FE Championship Race winner Robinson Motor Sports, Mair has already scored a pair of victories in his rookie campaign.
In addition to those talented race pilots, Formula Enterprises standout squads One Formula, MLC Motorsports, Hagerman RacEngineering, Motion Dynamics, Inspire Motorsports, TrackStar Motorsports, and Surface Exploration are expected to run selected races in upcoming Pro Series. Also expected to run in the series as time permits will be defending SCCA National Champion Nick Evans. Having been selected to the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver Development Ladder program, Evans primary focus this season will be the Mazda MX-5 Cup pro series.
The 2010 Formula Enterprises Pro Series commences with one of the highlights of the race calendar, running in conjunction with the Spec Racer Ford 25th Anniversary event at Road Atlanta in early April. With over four hours of track time during the event, the FE Pro Series drivers will race on both Saturday and Sunday with $2,500 in prize money up for grabs in each race.
Drivers interested in competing in the Formula Enterprises Pro Series should contact Formula Enterprises at (303) 693-2111. EFormulaCarNews.com will have full coverage of the Formula Enterprises Pro Series in 2010, beginning with Rounds One and Two on April 10-11. |
