I ran the worst that I have ever run in my entire span of Solo Nat's since 1988. So there is no sense in recapping that tragedy.
This report is to mark the end of a long era which started way back many years ago in which we (F440/500) started out in D Modified, then moved to C Modified and then I helped to write the founding ruleset for F Modified, then fought for it to grow and now due to a bad back must move to another class, E Modified. It has been a fun ride but you will still see me around at solo events and we will continue to build our race car rental business.

A certain Chevy-powered 914? If so, it sounds like I'll be seeing a lot of your (old) car in the coming year...

We certainly hope so! Maybe even a few changes on the way? Wink
I'm not sure how hard it will be for me to transition from a F500 to a 914, I guess we'll find out!

Yes, it is true. Steve Hayward now has my car, trailer and spares. We swapped at Lincoln.

Murphy, cut it out. This kind of post seems more like a eulogy than changing classes. So....other people will kick your ass instead of us....big deal. Should we send flowers? Dave Phaneuf wanted to know. See you next year...different class, different people, same red suspenders. Very Happy I'm not going to be banned for a personal attack am I? I will totally blame it on some quality beer, which I intend to bring ot the Runoffs for Phil Green.. Will also bring a clear liquid from Tennessee that has garnered positive reviews from well know conoissieurs. Tasting sessions for top qualifyiers, in excess, will be done at the party Thursday evening.

A statement of fact does not constitute an attack, who will you guys have to kick around now? Jim won't be as handy cause he will probaly be in a different run group.

Got time for a little editing today.... Click 720P to watch in HD

My second run Friday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1IpTXUWR5k

Second run compared to my third: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYLSf1owT5Y

I wasn't up as far as I thought I was. Shortly before my big slide and OC I was 2.6 seconds up. Extrapolated out to the rest of the lap I could have been in the neighborhood of 3.8 seconds up. Could have should have.

Jeff,
Good video, what are you using for a camera?
You can tell you were pissed after that 3rd. run, but
you know sometimes you just gotta go for it.
If you would have eased up you might have stayed clean...
but slower.....and still been pissed afterwards.
Better to just go for it!

I wanted to take a quick minute and introduce myself to the group. Jim and I made arrangements to swap cars back in July. Our goal was to conclude the deal in Lincoln. That way we could learn a little about each other's cars during the week and then head home. Unfortuneately I ended up getting very sick and didn't get cleared by my doctor in time to get to Lincoln to compete so I ended up being a spectator. I did get to Lincoln in time to watch all of the F-Mod runs and experience the roller coaster of emotion on Friday. I am excited about making the return trip next year with the car and carrying on the competitive tradition that Jim and Steve have established.

Why did I change classes? Cost to be competitive (make sure you race in a class you can afford to win in), and hopefully being part of a group that enjoys racing together. If the rest of the community is anything like Jim, Steve, Jeff, Stefan, Scott, and Todd (solo vee), I know I made the right decision. Even though I did not run at Lincoln, I had a great time and really enjoyed my first event in the car yesterday.

I know that Jim and Steve are going to catch some grief for changing classes. I for one will not jump on that bandwagon. They have my respect and I am looking forward to seeing what they come back to Lincoln with. They are going to be taking on a Goliath of a class and have quite a few ideas of how they are going to be successful. I ran out of money before I got there. I am confident that as a team they will do a great job.

For the rest of us that remain in the class, I am looking forward to good competition and sharing of information for the betterment of all. If we fail to do this, our class will be destined to follow in the foot steps of B-Mod and C-Mod and continue to dwindle in numbers until extinction is on the horizon. This includes ensuring that the solo-vees are welcome n the class. Bolt on valve covers a good idea? You bet. Making the vees feel like they are part of the class? Absolutely!

Hope to talk with all you on the forum or on grid in the near future.

-Steve

Too bad Jeff & Stephen didn't grab their 1-2 finish, that would've secured us having the last three national championship winning cars in our region, plus two more which are "slightly less competitive". There's also grumblings of two or even three more joining our ranks in the region.

That's the one thing we didn't have down here... any competition. At the most we would have 3 cars at a Tour, just me and Jim at local events, and every now and then Vern Lyle would run with us. But just not much activity down here. It's nice to hear the car is going some place where it's not alone!

Jeff Colegrove (nearly 2010 champ), Stefan Colegrove, Steve Hayward (2009 champ's car), Brian Ciarlei (2008 champ), Michelle Quinn (2010 FML champ) and Todd Miller (FVee) are all in Fingerlakes Region (www.flr-scca.com).

I'm in CNY region (www.cny-scca.com), but our two regions are so close that we both typically attend each other's events (as well as the occasional Glen region or WNY region event). There's also at least two "serious" Fmod buyers in CNY right now, all because it arguably has the most competition locally. At our current pace, I wouldn't be surprised if we see FMod's taking the top 6 positions in PAX for at least one event next year.
