Anyone know how the women did, since the dumbasses shut off the live timing before fml was finished? _________________ 88 Red Devil 494/4 link

....and her total time would have won FMod OPEN by over 4 seconds.
OK, she did have better conditions Friday, but if I remember correctly, in similar conditions on the West course Thursday, she would have been in 6th place had she run in Open class....must have been a well prepared car
Seriously, she's very talented. She never showed nervousness. She handled everything thrown at her. And she beat Jane Willis, an accomplished driver in her own right. The audio portion of the video replays demonstrated smoothness she has with modulating the throttle. Front wheel movement was very controlled. Unfortunately, the mounting of my new video system was too low so it didn't show the steering wheel/hand actions.
It will be interesting to see what she does next year. _________________ - Jeff Blumenthal

Since we never saw any reporter from Sports Car come around our grid and ask for reports on our competition, I would like everyone to write up their experience, other than the results, and I will compile them (both open and ladies) to see if Rocky Entriken will include them in Sports Car. I doubt that he will and I will use his refusal as support for a proposal to HQ.
I feel comfortable that North American Pylon will include the compiled report. At the very least, we here on the forum will hear about what happened to our competitors because we are all so busy during the runs it will really enhance our Nationals experience. We also need all the photos, too, including the "red suspenders" group photo.
I will write ours up shortly so ya'll - EVERYONE - write up what happened to you and post it here asap.

Jim,
As the SportsCar reporter for FM this year, I can assure you I was present for all runs of FM at Nationals and talked with a number of the competitors both days. I am in the same club as all the Minnesota drivers, and tried to keep abreast of the goings-on in FM - including the red suspenders.
I'm not sure what axe you may have to grind with Rocky, but rest assured I plan to report the event as I experienced it, including the 90 minutes I spent personally helping clean up the course for you guys on Friday after a certain FV tried to impersonate the Exxon Valdez.
Folks, feel free to post your impressions here - I'll monitor this thread for details I may have missed.

I am glad to know that you were present but I am curious if you went around and tried to talk with my end of the grid - like introduce yourself and ask for quotable comments. This is what I have asked Rocky in the past to really impress on his reporters to not regurgitate the results, meet as many competitors as possible and get as many observations as well. I do strongly urge you to compile all these reports as well as any good photos in your submission to Rocky. And please post your submission here so that we can see what editing Rocky does on your submission. If you do this then you will be the first reporter in many, many years to cover FM/L the RIGHT way. I will be rooting for you.

Rocky actually provides all the reporters with a fairly detailed "how-to" guide, and actively encourages us to include interesting stories beyond the results and obtain quotes from the winning drivers. However, some of what you're suggesting is frankly not practical, given the large number of classes and the limited size of the magazine. Providing much in-depth background detail or driver coverage beyond the podium finishers is quite difficult in the space made available. Given the unprecedented nature of the heat on Friday, it's likely I'll get a bit more space for the FM article than usual, but don't expect a multi-page FM expose.
As for photos, the writers aren't responsible for supplying or selecting them. Feel free to send photos to Rocky, if you have something you feel would be particularly interesting to the readers. However, I assume SportsCar's editors are the ones making most of the decisions regarding which photos to run. |

And that is the reason that I have been lobbying for Sports Car to go online so that there is NO space limitation for all the race reports. There is SO much good, interesting information that gets cut because "we don't have room" - now with an online magazine we DO have the space. The editor appears very reluctant so far to do this.

I agree with this completely. I did an article one year. It was a lot of work and I tired to make it a good read that people in the class would appreciate. It takes a lot of time to do that. Long story short .. it was edited to death. I will never consider writing an article again in the current format. However, if we were given just editing for readability and no space limitations I might reconsider. I wonder what the "space limitations" for advertising is?? hmmm .. |

It happened to my article as well and I will never do another one for Sports Car.
