|
|
So, I was talking to the guy who is going to do the annual tech on my car next week and he said he was only inspecting the car for required safety items. The example he gave was "Like having two throttle return springs". I can't seem to find this requirement in the GCR and my car does not currently meet this specification, I don't think. There is only one spring on the pedal assembly.
Is this a rule? Has anybody had to add a spring to a Red Devil pedal to comply??
Thanks,
Morgan |

There's the springs in the carbs themselves - is a secondary spring on the pedal itself required?
I know in my case I used to have one on the pedal, but I'm actually right in the midst of redesigning my pedal box - should I plan on adding a spring at the pedal as well, or can I just rely on the ones in the carbs? _________________ 1989 Red Devil w/ Kawasaki 440 (solo only) |

I'm trying to figure out if one on the pedal is enough or if I am supposed to have two
FYI, this is a road racing car so it may be under a different set of rules than solo only. |

| I've never heard of such a requirement, and I also can't seem to find it in the GCR. |

A spring on the throttle pedal can't accomplish much if the slide springs in the carbs would disappear.
The real problem with the Mikuni VM38's is if the carb top comes unscrewed....then you have 2/3 or more throttle from that carb (don't ask how I know this). _________________

...and yet another item goes onto my checklist for before the car sees action...

| Unfortunately, a lot of tech folks don't necessarily understand our cars very well. We don't have throttle return springs the way he meant when talking to you. Just tell him these cars don't have them and don't require them - if he has questions tell him to read the GCR. It's come up in annual tech before out west in Oregon anyway. It's a standard question the tech guys ask - once explained the issue/question goes away. Of course YMMV but this is my experience. |
